AFCEA Hawaii welcomed Lieutenant General Anthony G. Crutchfield, Deputy Commander, U.S. Pacific Command. General Crutchfield went over the importance of the pacific command and stressed the key factors that make this area of the world a huge responsibility. Noting aspects such as having a high number of nuclear declared states and five of the seven U.S. Collective Defense Arrangements: “meaning an attack on those nations, means an attack on the United States.” Crutchfield reviewed the topics that keep him awake at night and highlighted those that he felt was extremely important and demonstrated how they played a significant role in signals intelligence.

Mililani High School: Darius Usborne
Over the past four years, Darius served as an environmental Science Coordinator that planned several service learning projects with the Hui Malama O Mililani and our JROTC Program. Darius was a member of the Cyber Patriot Team that took third in the Nation in SY 2014/15. He was also the Raider Team Leader/Commander for the past two years managing over 60 cadets each year in multiple Raider Events, several of which we won at the state level. He plans is to go to Leeward Community College in the fall and receive his Associate of Arts Degree and then transfer to the University of Hawaii, majoring in Environmental Science and earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army ROTC Program, and become an Environmental Engineer on Active Duty.
Young AFCEAN of the Month: Ashley Bovey, TEK systems
Ashley Bovey was born and raised in Honolulu, HI. She’s a product of Kaiser High School and a graduate of the University of San Diego. Ashley has been a Technical Applications Recruiter with TEKsystems for 2 years, focusing on recruiting Project Managers, Business Analysts, Software Developers, and Testers for both the commercial and government spaces. Ashley has only been a Young AFCEA member for a short time, but has already been involved in community events such as doing mock interviews for Waipahu High School students, helping them prepare for jobs post-graduation. She is extremely excited about being a part of the Young AFCEAN community continuing to provide leadership and guidance to those around her.
AFCEAN of the Month: Richard Ashley, RSSC PAC
Originally from Colorado Springs, Richard enlisted in the Air Force in 1981 completing a 24 year career spanning three occupational specialties, 4 continents and 9 assignments. Highlights include personal commendations from General Bernard W. Rogers while serving as Supreme Allied Commander Europe and General Victor E. Renuart while serving as Commander, Joint Task Force-Southwest Asia. Richard served in numerous operations including Provide Comfort I & II, Southern Watch, Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.
Upon retirement in 2005 Richard joined Engineering Solutions & Products as a satellite communications operator for USARPAC’s C4ISR team, later transitioning to Field Service Representative, planner and subject matter expert for the 516th Signal Brigade. In 2013 he joined briefly with BAE as a MIDAS operator at NCTAMS PAC and then moved to PACOM with Booze Allen Hamilton as a Global Broadcast System Theatre Information Manager. He accepted his current position in 2014 with Femme Comp Inc. (FCI) as the DISA commercial SATCOM representative to PACOM at the Regional SATCOM Support Center – Pacific.
Executive of the Month: Rosa White, DR Fortress
Rosa is responsible for all finance, budget, human resources and operations for the Company. Rosa brings 15 years of experience in the IT and telecommunication industry specializing in finance, system and process implementation, and product development. Rosa most recently served with Equinix as the Asia Pacific Solution Development Manager where she managed all cross-regional sales efforts, new business and service offering opportunities, and assisted with financial system implementations in Asia Pacific. Previous positions include Senior Consultant for systems and process integration at KPMG Consulting, Hawaii (currently Bearing Point Consulting), Financial Controller at Strategic Information Solutions, Hawaii, and Revenue Reporting Manager at Adobe Systems, San Jose, California. Rosa graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Senior Government Leader: LtCol Robert Maldonado, PACOM J654
Originally from Bronx, NY LtCol Maldonado received a BS in Biology from Cornell University and was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 1994. He was assigned the MOS of 0602 and has since served in a wide array of assignments in both garrison and deployed environments including the Marine Air Wing (MAW) and Marine Logistics Group (MLG) as well as several assignments in the joint community to include DISA, and USCYBERCOM. He most recently served as the CO HQBN at MCBH prior to his current assignment in the USPACOM J654 as the Chief of C4 Plans and Exercises. He is a graduate of Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Joint Staff College and hold a Master’s Degree in Military Studies.
