AFCEA Hawaii welcomed Mr. Jicky Ferrer of the Defense Intelligence Agency as this month’s Guest Speaker. The Annual Membership Business Meeting was convened at this luncheon to vote in new Officers and Board of Directors. The outgoing officers were recognized during this luncheon. Awards were presented during the luncheon for Student of the Month, Young AFCEAN of the Month, AFCEAN of the Month, and Executive of the Month.
Student of the Month: Alex Yamada, Peal City High School
Alex plans to attend the University of California at Berkeley and major in Mechanical Engineering. He has taken Honors, Advanced Placement, and Early College courses, and maintains above a 4.0 cumulative GPA, and is ranked #1 out of 349 seniors in his class. Alex was a STEM Tutor for Highlands Intermediate School in 2014-15. He has been a Mentor and Advisor for their Science Club, Science Olympiad Team Director. He was also the Vice-President of the American Society of Civil Engineers Club in 2015. Captain of the PCHS First Tech Challenge Team, SeaPerch Team, and LifeSmarts Team. Grades 10 and 11 – International MATE ROV Competition Grand Award – 1st Place for technical report, and marketing display highlighting the robot’s features and team information. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration & Hawaii Academy of Science Award – grade 11; Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair Best in Category Award – grades 9, 10, 11; Engineering work published in the Journal of Ocean Technology in Grade 10; National Merit Scholarship Program “Commended” Finalist.
Alex is also a National Honor Society member and is on the Varsity Cross-Country/Track team.
Young AFCEAN of the Month: TSgt Julie Levingston, USAF, DISA PAC
Technical Sergeant Julie C. Levingston serves as Lead Systems Assurance, Defense Information Systems Agency Pacific, Hawaii. She Leads a 12-member joint service, contractor, and civilian team and provides secure cyberspace to 360,000 warfighters and 102 sites throughout the Pacific Rim. Additionally, TSgt Levingston directs efforts to identify ACAS/HBSS anomalies and she completes remediation of vulnerabilities to secure a $6.5B Department of Defense Information Network. TSgt Levingston led her team to stand up one of only five Global Service Desks in DISA, engineering 726 systems and 567 network accounts. Moreover, she led her team during a CIO-directed critical Windows 10 upgrade which secured 726 systems, hardening PACOM against 317 million attempted network attacks. Her team received the DISA Field Office of the Year in 2015 and the Federal Executive Team of the Year in 2016.
Technical Sergeant Levingston was born in Atlanta, Georgia, graduated from South Cobb High School in June 1994. She enlisted into the Navy on 25 September 1995 as an Aircraft Mechanic and after a four year tour, transitioned into the Air Force on 4 April 2003 as a Computer Systems Operations Apprentice. TSgt Levingston has been awarded an Associated of Applied Science and Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology.

Executive of the Month: Ms. Diane Stevens, Hawaii Telcom/HICTA
Corporate Account Manager III- Hawaiian Telcom. As a Corporate Account Manager for Hawaiian Telcom, Diane Stephens works with the company’s large business customers throughout the State of Hawaii. She began her career in the telecommunications business over 30 years ago and has won numerous performance awards. When she’s not taking care of her accounts, she spends her time volunteering as a Hawaiian Telcom Brand Champion to promote employee engagement and bowling in the Hawaiian Telephone weekly bowling league. She enjoys trying out new restaurants and going to the movies and concerts. You can always count on Diane to be there for you regardless of if it’s for business or for fun!
