NOAA Ford Island Facilities

In June, the Hawaii Chapter welcomed Mr. Steven Gallagher, Executive Director, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center (IRC) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. Gallagher provided an overview of NOAA’s critical mission in the Pacific which includes weather, climate, and tsunami forecasting as well as fisheries and ocean stewardship. He also provided an update of the new NOAA IRC Facility Project on Ford Island.

This month our chapter presented CDR Steve Jensen (USN Retired) with proceeds raised from our 2012 TechNet Asia Pacific golf tournament. Proceeds shall benefit the Navy/Marine Corps Warriors in Transition Organization where CDR Jensen is the volunteer chaplain.

ADM Dick Macke, (USN Retired) was presented with the Distinguished Life Membership Award.  The chapter recognized Harvard Kim, President and Chief Operating Officer, Pelatron, as Executive of the Month. Rob Ventura, Vice President, Ventura Technology, and 1st Lt. Kyle N.P. Rimando, USAF, 561 NOS Det 1, were honored as our AFCEAn and Young AFCEAn of the Month, respectively. This month we were pleased to honor Gerard Dabu, Kalaheo High School as Chapter Student of the Month.

During AFCEA East – Joint Warfighters Conference, AFCEA International presented the chapter with the Model Chapter for 2013 Award. Other awardees included CWO4 Cliff Jenkins (USN Retired), Meritorious Service Award; and CAPT Glenn Hernandez (USCG), Leadership Award; and Randy Cieslak, General James M. Rockwell AFCEAN of the Year Award (to be presented at the AFCEA International Honors Dinner in Washington, DC on September 25, 2013).
